Apply for Health Editors in Africa Fellowship!

The Health Editors in Africa Fellowship Program is set to transform health information accessibility across the African continent, which will be the first cohort of African Health Fellows on Wikimedia, while a digital certificate will be awarded to all fellows to celebrate their milestones.

This fellowship is designed as a dynamic capacity-building journey for selected health professionals from diverse nations across Africa. Its core mission is to empower dedicated individuals to become proficient editors and curators of vital health information, thereby enriching the knowledge ecosystem for communities throughout Africa.

What Awaits Our Fellows?

The program will bring together 30 talented health editors from across East, West, North, and South Africa for a comprehensive and collaborative experience:

  • Two Community Online Awareness Sessions: Engage in interactive sessions designed to foster a strong community and introduce key concepts in health editing and information dissemination.
  • Six In-depth Focus Group Discussions: Participate in rich, collaborative discussions that will deepen understanding, share best practices, and refine skills in health content creation.
  • Virtual Fellow Inauguration: Celebrate your achievement and officially launch the first cohort of African Health Fellows on Wikimedia during a special virtual ceremony.
  • Digital Certificate of Achievement: All successful fellows will receive a digital certificate, recognizing their commitment and successful completion of this landmark program.

Who Should Apply?

30 enthusiastic and committed health professionals from Africa who are eager to make a tangible impact. Here’s what they're looking for:

  • Commitment is Key: A genuine readiness to fully engage with and commit to the fellowship program.
  • African Health Professionals: Applicants must be practising health professionals based in any country across Africa.
  • Passion Over Pre-existing Wikimedia Experience: While experience on a Wikimedia project is a bonus, it is not required. What truly matters is your passion for the fellowship's mission and a strong will to learn and contribute. The program welcomes both new and experienced editors!

The Benefits of Becoming a Fellow

Participating in this groundbreaking program offers a range of valuable benefits:

  • Data Reimbursement: data reimbursement will be provided to support your participation throughout all sessions.
  • Official Recognition: A digital certificate will be issued to all successful fellows, acknowledging your significant contribution and newly acquired skills.
  • Leadership Pathway: The top 10 performing fellows will be selected to serve as local coordinators for subsequent health fellowship rounds, offering a fantastic opportunity to take on leadership roles and further shape the program's future.
