Calling Africa’s Climate Storytellers: A Fully Funded Reporting Journey to COP30 in Brazil

It is time to tell your story, not just of global policy, but of how it touches African lives, lands, and livelihoods. This November, Belém, Brazil, becomes the world’s climate capital as it hosts COP30, the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference. And thanks to a powerful collaboration between Internews’ Earth Journalism Network and the Stanley Center for Peace and Security, African journalists now have a rare chance to be at the center of it all.

The Opportunity: Report From COP30, Fully Funded

The Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) Reporting Fellowship 2025 is now open, offering selected journalists a fully funded trip to cover the biggest climate summit of the year. From the World Leaders’ Summit (Nov 6–7) to the official COP30 negotiations (Nov 10–21), fellows will gain access, mentorship, and editorial support to produce impactful climate journalism that reaches across continents.

And this year, they’re looking for first-timers—fresh voices with the power to shape how Africa is seen and heard in global climate talks.

Who They’re Looking For:

  • A professional journalist working with a recognized media house in a low- or middle-income country
  • Someone who’s never attended a COP before (as a fellow or self-funded)
  • Comfortable reporting in English
  • Experienced in climate/environment reporting
  • Able to share a clear pitch on the stories you'd pursue at COP30
  • Willing to participate fully in the program and travel to Brazil…this is your moment.

Bonus: You’ll also need to submit a 2-minute video sharing your story idea, plus an updated CV.

What You’ll Get:

  • All travel covered: economy flights, ground transport, travel insurance, and support with visa costs
  • Accommodation in Belém (note: some shared housing may apply)
  • Meals and stipend to support incidentals
  • Editorial support and training from veteran climate reporters
  • Access to pre-COP virtual workshops to prepare for interviews, topics, and story development

Why This Matters

Climate change is not just a global issue; it’s a deeply African issue. Our stories deserve space at the highest tables of negotiation. But access to financial, logistical, and institutional resources has always been the barrier.

This fellowship changes that. It puts the pen, the mic, and the camera in your hands and plants your voice at the center of climate justice conversations.

This isn’t just a reporting trip. It’s a moment of representation. A chance to show the world that Africa is not just vulnerable; we’re also vocal, visionary, and ready to lead.

So to the next generation of climate correspondents, editors, and storytellers:

Apply now. COP30 awaits, and Africa’s voice belongs in the room.
