SECO is Funding African Entrepreneurs

Are you running a growing business in Africa that is creating jobs, tackling local challenges, or supporting climate-friendly solutions? There’s good news.

The SECO Start-up Fund (SSF), backed by the Swiss government, is now open for applications. The fund provides loans (not equity) to help young businesses in emerging markets like Africa scale and create impact.

SECO

Why it Matters?

Access to finance is one of the biggest challenges African entrepreneurs face. Banks often require heavy collateral, while investors usually want equity and control.

SSF offers a different approach:

  • Loans of up to CHF 500,000 (≈ $570,000) to scale your business.
  • No equity dilution – you keep full ownership.
  • Flexible repayment – up to 7 years.
  • Focus on businesses that create jobs, transfer skills, and drive sustainable development in Africa.

Who Can Apply?

  • Businesses that are no older than 6 years.
  • Already generating revenue and ready to scale.
  • Operating in an emerging or developing country, including across Africa.
  • Ventures with a link to Switzerland (through investors, supply chain, or partnerships).

What SSF Supports

The fund has already supported over 120 businesses, created nearly 20,000 jobs, and mobilized hundreds of millions in private investment worldwide.

For African startups, this is a chance to:

  • Expand into new markets.
  • Invest in infrastructure or technology.
  • Attract more private investment.
  • Strengthen your impact on communities.

In Africa, where access to capital is a bottleneck, SSF can be the game-changer. It gives you the chance to scale faster, create local jobs, and drive sustainable impact, without giving up control of your business.

Applications are now open. Don’t wait; this is your chance to grow bigger and make a difference.
